A New Generation

I'm at the park and Gavin is being fussy so I let him have my cell phone. He opens the cell phone up and puts it to his ear and starts talking into it! I'm like, "you're 1, how could you possibly know what that is or what it's for?!!" My generation wouldn't have even known what to do with a cell phone. Now every kid you see has one. I still have a really old cell that we got for free over 3 years ago. My mom can barely turn her cell phone on and off without assistance. It is funny how things change so quickly that right in front of you your children know more about recent technology and how to use it than you do. I swore I would never be that person when I saw that my parents weren't even able to burn a cd. Well, looks like I might have to eat those words! I am far behind the times on cell phones and other technological advances! Of course, in the same breath he is trying to eat my camera! So maybe I have a few years on him!

Carter Phillip is born!

Carter Phillip Freestone was born yesterday afternoon. He is my sister Lindsay's second son. He is 8 lbs. 14 oz. He doesn't have red hair like his older brother Austin. I am not even sure who he looks like. We are excited to have the new addition and Lindsay is doing well! The funny thing is that he was born on the exact same day as James's twin Mark's son, and Austin was born on the same day as Mark's oldest son. They both have two sons with the exact same birthday! Kind of trippy!
New proud Daddy/Uncle with my kids!

Raining Golf Balls

This is the very golf ball that hit me while I was on my 15 mile run today. Brian says I stole someone's golf ball, but the pathway is pretty far from the green and I figure if somebody is that bad of a golf player that they peg me on my run, that ball is now mine! Then of course it started pouring rain while I was running also. It was the hard, freezing kind. Like 'God must hate me' kind of storm. It felt like I was carrying to buckets full of water on my feet. After all that, then I had to come home and get in an icebath so that I can walk tomorrow! I think I might have hypothermia for the next two days! From the freezing rain, falling golf balls, and huge snakes (did I mention that there was a HUGE snake on the trail!), running is getting to be a dangerous sport! I would have went running this morning, but Maya had a huge invitational swim meet. We were surprised when we got there to find that she was entered in Freestyle, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. The last two she has been learning for maybe a week. So I wasn't sure had she would react, but she got in for all her races. She of course got disqualified in the breastroke and butterfly because those strokes are very technical. In the butterfly your arms have to come out and clear up around like wings, you have to point your toes, and touch the finish with two hands. In the breastroke you have to keep your arms forward, they can't go back past your waist. I felt really bad telling her she'd been disqualified because she tried so hard and it is a long race! But, she can't learn if we lie to her. She felt really bad about it, but we talked about what we can do to practice and be better. Brian and I are learning alongside her! Here is her Breastroke race, obviously Brian was the filmer! She is in the middle with the purple cap.

2nd Recital

The girls had their 2nd recital last wednesday. I haven't been able to get the dances on the computer because my computer has been down. Now that it is finally working again, I can put them on there for those that missed the recital. Their first numbers are the ones they did at the first recital with some improvements. Then they both did a second dance. Maya had a different costume for the second dance, but Kaity just used the same costume. In Maya's dances her arms are way more graceful and open. I think being on the swim team has helped her posture and her grace. The owner of the dance studio is closing her doors so if the girls want to take dance at a later date, we will have to find a new teacher. They both did a good job and they were both very well behaved which is a definite improvement on last time!

Culturally correct

Maya had her first swim meet this morning. We had to get up at 5:15 because her meet started at 6:30 AM and it was about 30 minutes away. It was freakin early for everybody! She was pretty intimidated by all the kids so she wouldn't swim in her first event. Luckily her nerves settled and she swam in the backstroke. She did really well. We were so proud of her.
After the meet, Brian wanted to go get icecream at McDonalds. (It was only 9:30 in the morning at this time!) The kids went to play in the play area. There happened to be several hispanic families there as well. Maya was playing with the kids and she said to them, "HOLA! That is hello in Spanish!" I was totally dying! The kids just stared at her like "OK crazy white girl, let's just play" They probably don't even speak Spanish! It was just like you see on the movies when people insult people of a different culture by talking loud or completely mispronouncing their language. That dang Dora! When we got in the car and started driving home, Maya says, "I think that was Mexico." Clearly, we have a lot to learn about people of different color and culture!

Princess Festival

I took the girls to the princess festival today. It was a charity thing at Hatfieldadelphia. It's a place built by a man named Ron Hatfield for his children and grandchildren. There is a castle, cabin, park, play things, etc. It is a child's dream place basically. The girls got to go on a little adventure with the blue fairy from Pinocchio. The rescued Snow White from the witch, helped Rapunzel get out of the tower, change the beast back into a prince for Belle, got Cinderella to the ball, and woke Sleeping Beauty. When they were by Sleeping Beauty, Prince Philip told all the girls to shake the bed to wake her up. After they all shook the bed, Kaitlyn says, "Hey you have to kiss her, duh!" and Maya says, "Yeah, that's how the story goes!" Which he of course did.
It was pretty cute. Kaitlyn got to dance with Prince Philip at the ball.
She got to meet Maleficent (whom she loves from Sleeping Beauty). All of the princesses danced with their princes at the ball. They got to take pictures and hang out with all their favorite princesses
and then got a pearl necklace at the end. It is so easy to please little girls when it comes to the princesses! It wasn't cheap to do this, but it was for charity and the girls haven't stopped talking about it all day! I am sure we will be going again next year!

Maya's Kindergarten program

Maya had a kindergarten program for the parents/grandparents before the last day of school. It was luau dress. She was upset because she didn't have any flip flops to wear. My kids won't wear them because they don't like the thing between their toes, and I don't either! Anyways, we got up first thing and went to the store to get some freakin flip-flops!
I didn't get a chance to upload anything because we went out of town for the weekend to see Brian's parents. I wanted to put this up for those that wanted to come, but weren't able (namely her father Brian!). She was really funny. She loves to perform and sing in front of people so this was her cup of tea for sure!
I can't believe she is finished with Kindergarten! I shouldn't be sad, but I am a little sad that my 1st baby is all grown up! She will be in all day school next year. I might even have to let her walk to and from the bus by herself! (Well maybe I'll watch from the window!) It is fun to see the kids get bigger but it is sad sometimes how fast it goes!
Here is a few parts of the program for those interested in watching!

Relaxing Summer?

You may have noticed my countdown to the Top of Utah Marathon on the side of the blog. I officially started my training for the marathon this morning. It is in September. I am trying to do this race in sub 4 hours. My goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon, but if I am under 4 hours that will still be good. It is a lot of work, but well worth it in the end.
Maya started swim team today. She has practice everyday at 8:00. It was pretty intense. They swam a lot. She is definitely going to be an even better swimmer by the end of this!
Kaitlyn started gymnastics today. She is pretty good. She doesn't like the teachers to help her. She takes their hands off of her when they are trying to help her balance. She would rather fall off the beam on her own accord than have the teacher keep her "safe". She has a lot of upper body strength and was able to hold herself up on the uneven bars. She was really excited when we finished. As we were walking out she said, "Mom, when is it Monday again?" She only has gymnastics on Mondays.
So we got up at 7:00, went to swim team, then right over to the gym (for my work-out), and then back over to the rec center for Kaitlyn's gymnastics! And that is just Monday! So much for taking it easy and sleeping in this summer!
