Hey Mom Guess What?!

How is that I tell my kids the same things everyday, but it never sinks in until someone outside the home tells them?! Maya comes home from school all the time with the "new found" knowledge that she wants to share with me. The other day she told me that we should wash our hands because the doctor at the school showed them that they have germs on their hands. I was like "really?, I'm pretty sure that's why I tell you to wash your hands all the time and you never do it!" Then she tells me that her teacher told her she shouldn't eat snow because it has dirty germs in it. So I say, "yeah, I have told you that only a million times." Obviously if I want Maya to do something I have to tell the teacher to tell her that it is important. What does mom know anyway?!

Here's Your Sign!

I totally love Bill Engvall. I have seen him a couple of times on the Blue Collar Comedy tour. He always does a segment he calls "Here's Your Sign." Basically it is dumb things people say or do that are obviously dumb. So, last night we got home from an activity and the stove had been left on. It was just shy of the off so you couldn't really tell. We have a glass top stove, so it lights up saying that the surface is hot. I went over to it and saw that it was on, so I turned it off. I went into the other room and I heard Brian yell "OUCH!" I asked him what was wrong and he said that he had put his hand on the burner to see if it was hot. I told him that the light says "Surface Hot" so why in the world would you touch it to see if it really was?! Here's your sign! His hand hurt him all night long, and I could not help but laugh ALL night long. It was truly the epitome of genius!

Look Who's One!

Austin James Freestone turned 1 on Saturday. He is my baby sister Lindsay's son. He is dang cute. He has the whitest skin and reddish orange hair. He is a big kid too! I can barely lift that boy. Lindsay is pregnant with her second already. Pretty crazy huh?! The party was fun. It was fun to see his slide show and see how much has changed and happened over the last year!
Chowing down on the cake!

Opening presents with Daddy.

The many shades of Gavin

If you have seen Gavin's hair lately, it is like 4 different shades of color! And it is curly! He kind of looks a little dorky! Thank goodness he is a boy. I believe there is an unwritten law that allows boys to look like dorks. :) At his scalp the hair is blond, then it gets progressively darker to dark brown at the tips! I am hoping it grows out soon! He is a freakin cute kid though! His smile is precious!

A Poem from A Friend

This was given to me by a friend who lost her son. It is very sweet.

Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
with tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular; please wipe away the tear
for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear
but the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring,
for it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me; I see the pain inside your heart.
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.

So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear.
And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory of my undying love.

After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.

Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do.
For I can't count the blessing or love He has for each of you.

So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Remember, I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

A Fun Recital

The girls' first dance recital was last night. It was like prom at our house trying to get both girls' hair up and their make-up on. They both looked dang cute if I do say so myself!

I thought Kaitlyn might not do her dance because she hasn't been dancing at class the last few weeks. She told me a couple of days ago that she hasn't been dancing because she has been waiting for her costume and the stage. I had my fingers crossed that she would come out and perform. She definitely did not disappoint! They both did really good. Then at the end they did a finale, which they were both super excited in. Afterwards, they were supposed to sit and watch. Kaitlyn kept getting up and performing a solo out on the stage by herself! The audience was laughing so hard you couldn't hear the director thanking people. Yes, that's my child up there!
The videos came out a little blurry on youtube. Sorry! They aren't this blurry on my computer!

Snow Fun

A couple of days ago I finally agreed to help the girls build a snowman. Well, the snow was really hard so it was definitely not packing snow. (For those of you not from snowy states, that means the snow is not good for snowballs or building anything!) So I told them we were going to make a snow "child" instead. Otherwise, we would have been out there all day! They had a really good time and the snowman kit my mom gave us was perfect! Thanks mom!
Today the girls and I went sledding. Of course, Uncle Adam was supposed to go with us, but he totally bailed at the last minute. Something about being sick or something! :) Just kidding! He really did sound very sick! The girls still wanted to go so I went with them. We we to Rock Canyon Park. I used to go sledding there as a kid. I forgot how fun it was! We had this huge tube that was for two people. Kaity and I went first. At the bottom there is these little bumps. We were going pretty fast and when we hit the bumps Kaity flew up into the air, flipped around, and then landed on her side back on the tube! It was incredible! We were both laughing so hard, we couldn't get back up off the tube! Then we started riding with all three of us on the tube. At one point we were hauling and we pummeled this lady. I tried to yell at her, but she was oblivious. We took out her legs and she went flying into the air and landed right on top of Maya and Kait. I thought they would be hurt, but they were hysterically laughing. Luckily, the lady thought it was funny too!
It was tough work going up that icy hill like a million times. Especially since every muscle group in my backside is killing me from my glutes and abs class! I finally called it quits after a couple hours. The girls were very disappointed.
On our way back to the car we decided to go down the front hill that takes you to the street. This is very risky because you take the chance that you might fly into the street if you are going to fast and too far. Much like on "Christmas Vacation". I told Kaity that we would go about half way down the hill thinking that that would make us not have as much momentum. When I stopped, Kaity hit the sled and I fell onto it and started going down. Kaity was still hanging onto the handle and being dragged behind the sled! It was like those action movies that you see when the guy is holding onto something behind a vehicle and being dragged on their stomach! Needless to say we safely made it to the bottom and Kaity was soaking wet, white, laughing hysterically, and asking if we could do it again! Yeah, I don't think so! It was good to have a day with the girls!
